We've had an increase in students park at the church to either make it to class or to go to a baseball game....so here goes my rant because I am tired of hearing that someone is parked here that shouldn't be.
No, you can’t park at the church even if there’s no parking on campus. I get it. I was a student here not that long ago and I understand the struggle to find a parking spot. But my goodness, I never parked at the church like you kids do now!
Here’s the deal…I have no problem calling Shivers to come get your car. I really don’t. Shivers took 2 cars last week. Almost 3! But the guy weaseled his way out of it saying he is parishioner as he was making his way back from the baseball game. So here are some rules:
No, you cannot park at the church and leave us a cute little note saying you’re a parishioner. If I can’t find you in our system, you aren’t registered. So how can I know that you really are a “parishioner?”
Even if you are registered, you still can’t park here so you can make your way to class because you have this super important test you have to take. Or to go to a baseball game. I will really tow you if I know you’re at a baseball game.
You cannot park here, pray for a few minutes, leave your car to go to class, and tell me you’re coming back for Mass. If you’re not on church grounds, neither should your car.
“Well that’s not very Christian of you to not let people park here!” Yep. Already heard that one. If the Pope came and parked here and walked off to go watch the Rebels play baseball, he would get towed. No exceptions.
“But Vidi, what if I want to pray? Can I park at the church then?”
Glad you asked! Yes you can! You are welcome to park at the church if you are on the church grounds. That could mean you have a meeting with Father Joe or myself or you’re praying in the church.
Warning: We check the church to see if there’s anyone in there so don’t think you can get away with it if you decide you want to leave your car here while you go to class real quick.
So there you have it! Just don’t park here unless you are here for church related stuff. We have Mothers Day Out, fish fry, construction and all sorts of other things going on that require the use of the parking spaces. It saves me from having to call Shivers and it saves you some money, too!
